Code of Ethics at Seigakuin University & Schools

@Seigakuin University & Schools, as a Christian educational community based upon the school motto, gLove God and Serve His People,h hereby establishes the gCode of Ethics at Seigakuin University & Schoolsh (hereafter, gCode of Ethicsh) in order to remain viable and flourish far into the future.
   
(Purpose)
  Article 1  This gCode of Ethicsh aims to establish a Christian educational community in which all of the faculty and staff, as well as the directors and auditors on the Board of Directors, individually embody our school mission in both spirit and behavior in their respective positions, being fully cognizant of Section Three of the gArticles of Incorporation,h all three articles of the gSeigakuin Declaration on Educationh (hereafter, gDeclaration on Educationh), and, furthermore, the ten gPrinciples and Ideals of Seigakuin University,h in addition to working towards the realization of each yearfs respective goals of mission.
   
(Code of Conduct)
 

Article 2  As members of an educational institution, all the faculty and staff, including the directors and auditors on the board, who are charged with observing the preceding article, shall behave in a sensible and responsible manner.

2 All the faculty and staff, including the directors and auditors on the board, shall strive to enhance the prestige of our school and neither despoil its reputation nor be influenced by baseless information. We also shall abide by an obligation of confidentiality and ensure an accurate system of information gathering and dissemination, as well as strive to maintain a high moral standard regarding said information.

3 All the faculty and staff, including the directors and auditors on the board, shall appropriately manage the property and resources of Seigakuin University & Schools, not utilizing them in any way for private use, making a clear distinction between the public and the private.

4 All the faculty and staff, including the directors and auditors on the board, shall at all times be conscious of the importance of succession and continuity, transmitting their values from generation to generation.

   
(Ethical Responsibility of Directors and Auditors on the Board)
 

Article 3  The directors and auditors on the board are expected to be aware that embodying this “Code of Ethics” is inherent in their leadership roles, as well as to take the initiative in achieving the schools’ missions. Directors on the board serve to create each school’s vision for its development and energize its organization and personnel, and to stabilize and improve its financial condition. Auditors audit the finances, operations, and academic affairs of Seigakuin University & Schools. Both directors and auditors are expected to fulfill the responsibilities stated below with ethical integrity and an idealistic spirit.

  1. They shall nurture the body, mind, and spirit of the students in our schools and also of the faculty and staff of said schools, and, furthermore, strive for the tranquility and happiness of their families. They shall also work in partnership with the neighborhoods of our schools and contribute toward the local welfare and safety.  
  2. They shall neither abuse power, authority or finances, nor be a part of discrimination or harassment in any form whatsoever, instead being exemplary in both language and conduct. 
  3. They shall defer no responsibility and shall continually maintain a high level of accountability. 
  4. Along with making appropriate comments and suggestions regarding the organization, they shall be cognizant that they are representatives of the whole, not speaking for private benefit or making inappropriate allegations. 
  5. They shall refrain from independent, arbitrary actions irrespective of which institution they belong to. 
  6. They shall take the lead regarding retirement age and acknowledge without fail when the time to resign has arrived. 
  7. While listening to ideas from different perspectives, they shall resist undue pressure from the nation, organization, institution, group, or individual. Against antisocial and related forces, they shall keep a firm attitude and reject any unreasonable request pertaining to matters to which they have no apparent association. 

2 Directors and auditors on the board shall take the initiative in exercising the “Declaration on Education,” the “Rules of Employment,” and this “Code of Ethics,” and be aware of the impact they have on the school as role models for the faculty and staff.

3 Directors on the board shall solve problems as the top managers of Seigakuin University & Schools when serious matters arise in violation of the “Declaration on Education” or the “Rules of Employment” occur, being active in disclosing accurate information and having accountability, as well as being in involved in the investigation and prevention of problems. Furthermore, they shall not hesitate to inflict administrative punishment upon themselves strictly as the situation demands.
   
(Principle of Compliance)
  Article 4  All the faculty and staff, including the directors and auditors on the board, shall be aware that Seigakuin, as a Christian educational community, plays a visible and public role in society, and shall, therefore, comply with all the standards of a Christian school, as well as all attendant principles, laws, rules and regulations.
   
(Expected Abidance by the “Code of Ethics” at Seigakuin University & Schools)
  Article 5  The faculty and staff of Seigakuin University & Schools are expected to actively abide by and live in the spirit of this “Code of Ethics,” demonstrating the highest ethical standards.
   
 
  This “Code of Ethics” was established by all the attendees (including directors, auditors and administrative staff) at the Board of Directors meeting on May 27, 2013.
