Seigakuin - Christian

Seigakuin began as a Mission School and continues to emphasize the Protestant Christian faith as a basis for education in spite of strong movements towards secularization in Japan.Even though most of the students come without any Christian background (less than 1% of Japanese belong to a Christian Church),all students at Seigakuin participate in Christian worship and Christian education appropriate for their age. Students are challenged to think of their lives and society from a Christian perspective.
"Love God and Serve His People" is the motto of the Seigakuin Schools.Seigakuin Schools seek close cooperation with churches. Students are encouraged to attend local churches and to find opportunities of service in the community. Many pioneers inthe field of education-particularly women's education and preschool education-have been Christians. This is also true in the field of social welfare and social services.
Joshi Seigakuin High School has a long tradition of education for peace. Students in their junior year visit either Hiroshima or Nagasaki. Through this experience and through biblical and historical studies they learn about the causes and devastating results of modern warfare. JoshiSeigakuin has also been recognized for its strong program of volunteer service. Students volunteer many hundreds of hours of service in a wide range of institutions and programs.
