Seigakuin Kindergarten is one of the oldest kindergartens in the Kita-ku of Tokyo,
which started in the missionary residence of Joshi Seigakuin in 1912. The prayers of
the missionaries who served as the Directors, and the unstructured free environment
which gave top priority to"Play," as emphasized by Friedrich Frobel, contributed to
the formation of the tradition of "Play with all your might and Pray with all your heart."
In the Taisho era (1912-1926) and early in the Showa era (1926-1989), children of many
prominent persons came from the neighboring "Tabata Writers and Artists Village."
Currently, it is a widely known kindergarten, with more than half of the children coming
from outside of the Kita-ku.
