Christmas Pageant

December 15, 2012

At our annual Christmas Pageant, our students played the parts of Christmas story in both Japanese and English. The pageant exemplifies that the message of Christmas is spoken in many languages around the world. For our Christmas worship service, we honored our theme this year of gMany Nations, One Earth,h by having Pastor Michael Yuming Zhu, originally from Shanghai, China, come and bring a message to our students. It was a wonderful day.

Before the worship service, our students gave gift boxes to NBA legend and former Atlanta Hawk, Dikembe Mutombo. For one of this year's service-learning projects, gThe Congo Project,h our students wrote get well cards and brought gifts to send to the sick children at the Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mr. Mutombofs homeland. Dikembe Mutombo is known worldwide for his effort in building a hospital in the Congo. This past June, the eight-time NBA All-Star and first four-time Defensive Player of the Year in league history was the guest of honor at the Foreign Sportswriters Association of Japan meeting in Tokyo. As the NBA's Global Ambassador, Mutombo was in the capital city for the Basketball Without Borders Asia program which featured 50 layers ages 18 and under, representing 18 nations in the region, including Australia and New Zealand. Japan's first-ever Basketball Without Borders camp ran in conjunction with a clinic for children in Sendai, the site of Japanfs devastating earthquake.
